Some of us maybe relieved and glad that those four years are in the past. The majority of us. I'm sure, feel sad when we realize that they are gone forever. But regardless of our feelings, each and every one of us has had some happy and some tearful memories to recall to us the years we have spent at Norfolk Senior High School. The purpose of this annual is to act as a stepping stone back through the days of 1955-56, and as you read it and look at its pictures, may it help you to regain the happiness you experienced while you were a student of N.H.S. Thisyear of 1956 marks a MILESTONE in thelifeof a man, who, as we journey through our high school career, is not only someone whom we respect a great deal, but also someone whom we can call our friend. His knowledge and guidance provides a torch that carries us through the years before we strive to enter the work-a-day world a-bout us,and his influence is always felt. To a man who stands at the top of the stairway when we look toward the future; to a man who thisyear iscelebrating his twenty-fifth year as Superintendent of Norfolk Public Schools, we dedicate the Milestone of 1956 . . . We are proud to present our 1955-56 faculty, the back-bone of Norfolk Senior High School! The Senior High Faculty has taken an active part in the Norfolk Faculty Club throughout the present school year. This Club, including all teachers in the Norfolk schools, has as its purpose the improvement of public school education through the promotion of the professional growth and welfare of teachers, as well as the cooperation, whenever possible, with all the organized efforts for the betterment of public school education. The club's officers are as follows: president, Mr. E. H. Williams; vice president, Mr. H. A. Johnson; secretary, Miss Lucille Schmidt; and treasurer, Miss Virginia Jones. Besides their many teaching responsibilities, the faculty also participated in varied social events. They began the schoolyear witha fallpicnic in honor of new teachers, and in December, the Board of Education and their wives were honored with a dinner party. Their projects included the promotion of Social Security Benefits for teachers and the sending of a representative to the Delegate Assembly of the Nebraska State Education Association. 4
