. The sophomore class has as its purpose a growth in Spiritual Background. .Xn apologetical foundation of the Faith is instilled in the juniors and Seniors. The first period every Friday is devoted to liturgical worship and Father Maioriello has introduced the dia- logue Mass to the students. This creates in the student a realization of the unity he can have with God as a part of the Mystical Body of Christ. Father Nlaioriello has organized this program for the benefit of the students. The most important of these benefits being a Closer union with God. maturity in religious thought. and the ability to explain the Catholic faith upon any occasion. Father has set an extremely high goal for all to reach. He wishes to create a more liturgical minded laity. a broader knowledge of the churchis social apostolate and an awareness of the dangers of the day in this area. With the students' Cooperation he will reach this standard and Norfolkis Students will graduate equipped with a knowledge of high school subjects and a clear understand- ing of the Catholic Church. For what better asset can we ask i? December 8, the opening day of the Marian Year, saw all the Catholic students of Tidewater united at Old Saint Mary's to honor Our Blessed Lady. Ceremonies were begun by a Solemn High Mass celebrated hy Monsignor Joseph Coveart, YF., Dean of Tidewater, assisted hy our own Father Meehan as Deacon and Father Haymond Mclntyre as Sub-deacon. After Mass. everyone gathered at the new statue of Our Lady of Tidewater. Father Leo Creamer led the recitation of the Rosary. after which Monsignor Coveart consecrated all present to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Representatives of the various elementary schools high schools and nursing schools presented a floral piece to honor Our Blessed Mother, John Began, Norfolk Catholiris Student Council President. per- formed the honor for his fellow students.
