U 0 I All of us loolr 11p to someone we wish to imitate. a person who has won our admiration by a noteworthy action or a heroic deed. We outwardly strive to imitate this person: we inzeardlj' wish to gain esteem and aeelaim as our idol has done. We seniors of 1954 have an idol. Ile is above the plane of human beings: he is a perfect spirit. Although we have never seen Saint Michael the Archangel. a love and respect for him have grown wihtin us since we. as freshmen, first really met him. A hero must perform an extraordinary deed in order to gain his status. .4t one time in heaven. there existed a rebel angel named Lucifer who attempted to turn other angels against their Creator. It was then that Saint Michael rose to the rank of leader of the celestial armies and drore the evil Lucifer into the eternal flames of damnation. From Saint Michael we learn to be staunch in our faith. Ile is the driving spirit who inspires as to be valiant soldiers in the Army of Christ. May Saint Michael. through his power before the throne of Cod. continue to aid us in our life-long struggle against the forces of Satan! Because of our devotion to this illustrious arehangel. we seniors, u'hen freshmen. purchased a statue of St. Michael so that we would be reminded of him as we hurried from class to elass. Ever since then. St. Michael seems to have acquired a .special liking for us and it has even been rumored that zee are his special proteges. His statue has become part of the school as his spirit has become part of us. How empty would be our main hall without the beautiful statue of our patron saint! ln this yearbook, we .seniors wish to show the active part St. Michael has played s. 1 in our school life, we wish to reveal how St. Michael, like a personal friend, has continu- ed with us day by day and how he finally has helped us reach our goal. Because of our V special regard for our patron saint, we feel that he should relate to you our achieve- ments as the first class to have completed four years of instruction at Norfolk Catholic High. Perhaps he can recall incidents we have long forgotten. So now, St. Michael, will you please talfe over? 1 F X i.,.4 re' A 445- X ftp . ' 1 .5 1' 4 l s-4 4: zff
