Because of this factor, Catholic High students in order to meet .the demands and requirements expected of them in adult life, must strive to develop strong bodies as well as strong minds. Sports are the keys to this development. Besides being a necessary factor in preparation for adulthood, sports are popular and absorb the time, energy, and interest of each and every high school boy and girl. Athletics, considered from the right viewpoint, means much more than the development of mere muscle. The true ideals of athletics are not bone and sinew alone, but such qualities as quickness and skill, cour- age and manlinessg pluck, energy, and endurance-summarized, strength of mind and of character, as well as of body. The true athlete can take defeat without gripingg he can similarly subordinate and adapt himself to the strenous demands of team coordination. He possesses the virtue of sportsman- ship. The high school athlete ordinarily learns that playing the game is valued much higher than winning it. It means representing your school in every way. lt means being a good student as well as a good athlete. It means active interest not only in one field of sports but in every branch of school life. A lively spirit of competition adds zest to the game, 6 but this can be overdone. It could result in letting Q the true spirit of fair play become forgotten. The f teaching of the Christian attitude in sports as well as in every other field curbs this and accents the importance of being a good sport. dlthough Catholic High is small, she has become ICHAEL ll ARWO CHIMP outstanding because of the role she has played in the field of sports, which, in turn, has given her '1nU,,. they belong to such a fine school! i IM-SL V students every reason to be proud and happy that
