CAPTAINS Marvin Moore Bill Williams, 74a ?aZme Nordhoff's Junior Varsity, under the coaching of Mr. Linkenhelt and Mr. Smith had a very successful season this year, and these boys in future years should add further glory to Norclhoff's football history. The J.V.s started off the season by losing to a strong Carpinteria team 26-18. They got revenge in the next game however, as a large crowd turned out for a home game to see the Rangers down Santa Clara 19-13. Los Prietos was the Rangers' next victim as Hughes Moir scored two touchdowns to lead the j.V.'s to an exciting 13-12 victory. Nordhoff's future stars wound up the season with a 12-0 victory over Villanova which was played in the first rainstorm of the season. At the end of the season the team got together and selected Marvin Moore, Bill Williams, and Tom Grealish as captains. Leonard, Gilliam, Phil Freeman. Ron Biggers, Coach Linkenhelt. Four Nordhoff basketball players were chosen All-League this season. They were Ralph McBride, DeVon Weeks, honorable men- tiong Dee Fitzgerald, honorable mentiong and Dick Perry. Coached by Fred Linkenhelt, a newcomer to the Nordhoff coaching staff, the Ranger varsity this year, despite the mediocre record in the win and loss column proved in numerous occasions to be one of the best varsity basketball teams in years. After losing their first three practice games, the Rangers got going, and wound up the season with a 5-3 record in league play, and tied Moor- park for second place, The highlight of the season came with the final Villanova game. Trailing in the second quarter by 17 points, the Rangers caught on fire and ran the Wildcats all over the court, finally winding up the contest on top of a 72-59 score. At the end of the season the team selected Ralph McBride as Captain. Four members of the team were elected All-League, Ralph McBride, Dee Fitzgerald, Dick Perry, and DeVon Weeks.
