ft E Football 81 get fa, ,X Nr-, ,, The football team of 1981 has done an excellent job this year. The school can be proud of a 6-4 season as it looks forward to an even better season next year. The Blue Devils all improved as the year went on. The team grew closer together and learned to depend on each other. MADISON COUNTY The Blue Machine traveled to Madison County to play their fifth game of the season and easily defeated the Red Raiders, 21-7, Tim O'Malley, a first time starter at quarterback, led the offense to their first touchdown of the evening. Elbert Manning had three touchdowns. Shelley Poole rushed for 121 yards and scored on a two point conversion play. Hyncho Kang kicked one P.A.T. for the other score. Taylor Lackey caught 6 passes during the game, 4 from Elbert Manning and 2 crucial interceptions. Blake Beeson did a fine job on the defensive line and helped tremendously on the offensive and defensive fronts. Casey Dunn, Robbie Renno, and Billy Wallace led the defense with tackles. GAINESVILLE After two weeks of preparation for their first sub-region game, the Devils met the Gainesville Red Elephants only to lose, 17-10. The Elephants scored 17 points early in the game and the Devils could not'recover, although they outplayed the Red Elephants in the second half. Shelley Poole was injured early in the first quarter and left the game. Elbert Manning moved to Poole's position and Tim O'Malley to quarterback. Manning led the rushing with 99 yards for the Devils. Taylor Lackey led receivers with 4 receptions for a total of 48 yards. The defense did an excellent job of recovering after the Elephants scored. They recovered 4 Gainesville fumbles, to set up the only T.D. of the evening. Mike Worthy and Casey Dunn led the defense, pg. 121

The 1981 Blue Devil Football Season has proved to be a winning one. A winning season in more ways than one, as Norcross is proud to have five players make the All-County Team. These players are Tim O'Malley, Elbert Manning, Blake Beeson, Scott Teague, and Taylor Lackey. This is the most Norcross has ever had on the All-County Team. CONGRATULATIONS!! N ,my ,.. the WINDER The Devils defeated the Winder Bulldogs, 14-6, with Shelley Poole back in action. Poole gained 93 yards. Despite an injury early in the game quarterback Tim O'Malley completed 6-9 passes for 91 yards, including 1, 21 yard touchdown pass to Morris Harris. O'Malley scored on a yard run in the third quarter. Mike Harris caught 3 passes for 57 yards. Scott Teague led the defense with 9 tacklesg blocked an extra point and a field goal, caused a fumble and recovered a fumble. ETOWAH Norcross defeated Etowah in their last game of the season, and got their second SHUT-OUT! , 18-0. Early in the game Robbie Renno intercepted an Eagle pass to set up a touchdown. Tim O'Malley then hit Michael Harris with a 21 yard pass for the touchdown. The offense did not score again until late in the second half, Shelley Poole took a pitch-out around the right side for a touchdown. Tim O'Malley also scored on a 35 yard run. The defense did a good job of being in the right place at the right time. Robbie Renno intercepted a pass, and Mike Worthy recovered a fumble and O'Malley also intercepted a pass. This concluded the pg 122 Blue Devil 1981 Football Season and gave them a 6-4 record. x
