This year the Varsity football team proved to be a hard- working and unified group. The team's hard work proved successful as the Blue Devils had impressive victories over Duluth, Roswell, Madison County, North Hall, Winder and Etowah! The team worked hard to achieve their goals. They practiced long, hard hours for each game. The Blue Devils put their heart and soul into every game and did their part to make Norcross proud. ST. PIUS Norcross lost the season opener to the St. Pius Lions, 7-0. At the beginning kick-off it looked as if the Blue Devils would have the perfect setting for their 1981 Football Season. The Devil defense held the Lion's to one first down in the opening series. After receiving the ensuing punt, Norcross' offensive unit drove the ball to the Lion's 5 yard line, only to fumble. The rest of the game was filled with mistakes, turnovers, and penalties, The closest the Devils got to scoring was the Lion 20 yard line in the final minutes of play. Leading the offense was Taylor Lackey, who caught 8 passes for 92 yards. The defensive unit was led by Scott Teague. The entire defense did a good job of holding the Lions when necessary. -PARKVIEW The Blue Devils traveled to Parkview for their second game of the season, but lost to the Possums, 10-3. The Devil offense failed to mount a successful drive, despite the fact that Shelley Poole gained 77 yards rushing and Michael Harris caught 3 passes for 53 yards. Blake Beeson held the Devils together with his leadership on the drive. The offensive unit outgained the Possums in over all yardage, 208-197, but the only time the Devils scored was a 19 yard field goal by Hyncho Kang in the fourth quarter. The Devil defense was led by Robbie Renno with 7 tackles. The defense held the Possums to short yardage all night. pg. 118 V Football at-1
