Lea Sumner showing everybody how it ' s done. CANOE RACE On toga day this year, NHS sponsored a very special competition, the canoe race. Actually, the lake was the pool and the canoes were plastic ratts, but with Norco ' s imaginative students, it really didn ' t matter. Approximately 100 students (most in togas) showed up at the poolside to cheer their class representatives on. Cougars put torward their best foot and showed that they are best on land and sea. FIFTIES DAY Fifties day at Norco Senior High was nothing but typical. Many people didn ' t have to dress up since this style is coming back. But many other people did dress up. They looked at their mother ' s or father ' s old clothes and found something nice to wear. At snack the students held a hool-a-hoop contest. Many of the students participated in this event. Some wore lettermen sweaters, others t he long poodle skirts, and most of the guys greased their hair back. Overall fifties day at Norco High was a success. FLOAT BUILDING A large part of homecoming week is the preparation for the float contest among the classes. Every night for a week, the students gathered at Ingalls park to work on the floats. It was rather funny to see how many seniors suddenly volunteered to tie the napkins on to the chicken wire once tfie paper mache material was brought out, but in the end no one escaped from the gooey substance. Everyone eagerly awaited the final mo- ment when the winner would be announced, but it was really no surprise when the senior float won. 1 ' r, Wendy Webb, Barbara Reisdorf.
