The girls ' swim team started this sea- son with a 3-0-1 record in non-league meets. Two relay teams qualified for C.I.F. competition-the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay-in the first few weeks of the season. This outstanding team also had other potential C.I.F. qua- lifers. Among them: Cindy Gillespie in IM; Sandra Meckoll in 200 free and 100 fly; Liz Perez in 100 back and 100 fly; Wendy Webb in 200 and 500 free; Tracy Whifford in 100 fly and 100 free, and Renai Reed in 50 free and 100 breast. SWIM TEAM SHOWS PROMISE First class boys swimming returned to Norco High this season thanks to the dedication and efforts of 24 talented swimmers and a new coach This year ' s team, dominated by freshmen and sophomores, was well on the way to the best wm-lose record since the glory days when Dale Malacay was coach and Norco was all GIF in the early 70 ' s Returning lettermen David Vinlove and Randy Webb led the team with the help of Rob Sim and Pete Westsleyn. two seniors who were competing in swimming tor the lirsi lime ever, and doing extremely well at that. The big news though was the talented bunch ot underclassmen who turned out with the promise ot league championships and CiF class teams in the years to come Norco ' s young team surprised older and more experienced teams time and time again and the word spread quickly among the high school coaches Norco ' s backl Webb, the team ' s top junior, excelled in freestyle and butterfly as well as being the top individual medley man Vinlove and Sim led the freestylers and Webb was busy in other events Top 10th graders were Rich Wagner in breast, fly. and individual Medley. TRACK FIELDS NORCO ' S LARGEST TEAM - 82 ATHLETES The Cougar track team has started the 1983 season with much enthusiasm. They are ready to take the GIF Championships: both boys and girls. They began by having a car wash to raise money for track uniforms. A good team must look good too. Even though the season is not over yet, the coaches have much hope for their team.
