RODEO RIDERS RIDE TOUGH Many students at Norco High School are involved in one of America ' s favorite sports. This sport is rodeo. Not many people know how hard the rodeo life is and how expensive it is. Not only does it cost to enter each event, but gas for travel, the right equip- ment and medical bills for broken bones add up. The cowboys and cowgirls of today have a rough time getting enough practice, keeping their horses and equipment in good condition and keeping up in their school work. When most people watch a rodeo they think how easy it would be to ride a bronc or a bull for only eight seconds, but when you are on that horse or bull those short eight seconds seem like hours. Not many people realize a horse runs on the average of thirty-five miles per hour and a cowboy who is bull- dogging (steer wrestling) or calf roping just steps off at that speed. Next time you are driving thirty five miles per hour in your car look out at the ground and see if you would just open the door and get out. Rodeoing is hard but the rewards are worth the bumps, bruises, and broken bones. Even if you don ' t win all the time, once you ' ve got the bug you are hooked. ■ ■ - .
