' f - , FACTS ABOUT VOCATIONAL AGRICULTURE AND THE F F The Vocational Agriculture Department offers one year of Ag to freshmen, two credlts to sophomores and two more years of Vocatlonal Agriculture to juniors for a total of five credlts The student spends two days out of each week in the shop Basic 1HStTuCtiOH 1n the various shop Sk1l1S 1S glven the flrst year as they are outlined in a shop credit card, and the student 1S to do construction projects 1n his second and third years to become prof1c1ent in the different skills hile doing further check off worm on advanced shoe record cards In the classroom much of the instructlon is built around the varlous contests a student may enter with the contest be lng used to motlvate student lnterest, and many of the problems whl h are encountered 1U the development of farming programs and carrylng them out UIVS rise to other lessons to be taught The Future Farmers of America 1S the parent organization of farm bors enrolled 1n Vocatlonal Agriculture classes and senlors who vere students The organlzation, by 1ts many and varled 3CtlV1t19S, offers many opportunitles for self develop- ment F H A The Home Economics Department consisted of one advanced third year class Je covered as nearly as possible all aspects of build1ng, furnlshlng and remodellng a home From here we stud1ed the famlly aspect of group needs, individual family and private needs to successful familv living Ou finishing weeks were in chlld development, material buying and home productlon of clothing In the kitchen unit ou studles varied from outdoor cooklng to fancy breads and party foods Perhaps the highlight was when the home eco- nomics room turned into a nu sery for one afternoon In F H A the Pl9t8PP members partlclpated in several parties, and actlvitles crowned by fou members attending the State Ieeting 1D Topefa The size of th1s group and thelr elastlclty to fit 1DtO varleo sltuation made this a wonderful year, ending all too JJ' . .A. Of these, only eleven were high school students. Most of the others had not played in Senior Band before. The group now numbers thirty-five Various members of the Senior Band have played as a pep band for practically all of the home basket-ball games. The Senior Band par- ticipated in the band clinic at Lenora. The Beginners Band, including students from third grade up, has a membership of twenty. Although the instrumentation in Senior Band is quite incomplete, the Beginners Band has a wide variety of instruments. Several of the beginners have already moved into Senior Band which, in another year will have a good representation of instruments. The two bands have been having combined rehearsals and will give a concert early in May.
