' X ,JW ay. i Final payment on the S9000 debt incurred with the purchasse and rlooa liphtlng of the Nora bprings athletic field was made between halves of the Nashua Football game last November 5th Here Hr Kenneth Shanks is receiving from Supt iatson his final 850 00 check on his loan of S300 00 made when the Association was organized in 1908 Others shown awaiting their turn to receive their final payment are Budd Marshall, Calvin Diegel, O L Hansen and Paul Uildner The Nora bprings Athletic Association was formed in Jun 19h8 for the purpose of 'providing and athletic field and lighting facilities for ath letic contests for the people of Nora bprings' Land was purchased ad olnlng the school playground and We tlnghouse Electric was employed to urnlsh plans and supplies for the lighting fixtures Dodson Electric Company of Mason City provided the skilled labor The work was completed in time for our first home game On the evening of September 24 1948 the field was dedicated To raise the necessary money, the fund was divided into 30 shares and were given non interest bearing notes and the association was incorporated under the 1 ws of Iowa to protect the holders of shares At the end of the associat1ons's fiscal year, December l 1948 each member was anted a dividend of S80 00 Thereafter, annual dividends amounted to S 0 00 each in l9b9 and 1950 and S50 00 each in 1951 and 1952, thus retiring the debt in record time Hhen the organizatlon was affected in l9U8 Leland Hartwell was BLBCLSG president, O L Hansen, vice president, Harold Teeple, treasurer, and by virtue of his position in the local school, Superintendent Watson was named secretary nach of these men retained their respective positions through the five year period of the program Since no formal action-has taken to dlssolxe the organization, it still exists in dorm ncy to arise again in case a similar undertaking should be contemplated Other members of the organization were Kenneth 5ha ks, Paul Gildner, Edward Schlosser, Harold Schnedler, John Wendt Jr , Virgil Gast, Budd Marshall, John Hartwig, Howard Treloar, sllsworth mreloar, Francis Sherman, R L Bellows, Glen Swedberg, Dick Kupker R A N ck, H M Seller, Elmer Apel, Paul 5potts, Glen Idso, Tames A Cutler, E C Moody, Henry Steidl, C E Kluver, Field and Christ iansen, F R Sheckler and Sons, Tatum Hardware Co , H D S Post No 459 American Legion Manf other lntere ted individuals and friends contributed much of their time and labor on the field, their machinery and tools It would be impossible to recognize all of tqem But a beautiful, well planned field lies here very h ndy to th school and community in commemoration of all the efforts so solendidly contributed All the financial burden was even tually borne by closely budgeting the money received as admission to foot ball and basketball games and receipts from the cdncession stand at these Q ntests 'ua . ff' CL f ' 'fa . l , 'I x wf ll , Q N fp ' I X of f O g fum 4 ', Q 'sold' to 30 enterprising individuals and organizations.
