CLASS HISTORY The year 1944 saw fifteen very eager, and green freshmen enter the por- tals of Noonan High in September. The class enrollment of this year was as follows: Donna Lou Thompson, Marlene Mae Meyer, Iola Toso, Willis Robinson, Virgil Roness, Emil Engelke, Ernest Nelson, Bob Rindel, Robert Carlson, Lillian John- son, Donald Wallin, Donald Brown, Vernon Goochanour, Carl Loomis, Lucille Sorboen. The Initiation was the most important event in the lives of we freshmen. It took place in the gym of school on October 6th. The sophomores put us through the usual routine but we came through with flying colors. Immediately following we were entertained with games, informal dancing, and, later in the evening, a light lunch was served. When we entered school the second year we lost Lillian Johnson and Ver- non Gochanour; Lillian went to her home in Oak Point, Manitoba to continue school there and Vernon just discontinued school. At the end of the first semester three others dropped. They were Donald Wallin, Donald Brown, and Carl Loomis. At present, Donald Brown is employed in Orange, Texas; Carl Loomis is doing odd jobs in town; Donald Wallin went to the Top and Body School in Fargo and is now the owner of the Noonan Top and Body Works. This year was our turn to initiate and welcome the freshmen of '45. They were very good sports throughout the whole performance and were truly members of Noonan Hi when we got through. When the school year of ‘46 opened, we all entered school as Juniors, with ten in our class. The first historical event of this year was the Junior Class Play, Through The Keyhole under the direction of David Kimbal. There were eight players in the cast and the performance was given on Friday, February 28, 1947. The net proceeds were used to finance the banquet and pram in the spring. Near the end of the school term came the much anticipated banquet and prom given for the seniors of 1947 and sponsored by the Junior Class with the assistance of our mothers and friends. The event was scheduled for May 16, 1947 on a Friday afternoon and evening. The banquet was held at the Lutheran Church parlors at 5:30 P.M. where a Dutch theme was carried out in blue and white. A four course dinner was served by three sophomore girls, dressed in pastel blue dresses with white and blue Dutch aprons. During and between courses the party was entertained by a short pro- gram. At eight o’clock, the activities were resumed at the Memorial Hall where informal dancing commenced until nine, when the grand march took place. The theme for the prom was the Dutch Frolic and was surrounded in an atmosphere of the typical Dutch windmill and tulip garden. In September 1947, ten seniors enrolled for the school term and began the completion of the graduation requirements. June, 1947, will introduce us into a new phase, that of alumni of Noo- nan High School. CLASS WILL We, the Class of 1948 of Noonan High School, of the County of Divide, and the State of North Dakota, being of sound mind and body after four strenuous years, do hereby make, publish, and declare this as our last and best will and testament; hereby revoking all former wills, bequests, and devices of whatever nature of form heretofore made by us. We, the Seniors, will to the faculty, our regular habits and the excuses we are so good about bringing from home. To the Juniors, we extend to them the right to accept or reflect all carved and battered desks and all our Senior dignity. To the Sophomores, we will our ability in long arguments that never gets us anywhere and our dislike for getting down to business. To the Freshmen, we will our fondness for coke and bubble gum. Bob and Virgil will their ability to enjoy picnics to Mavis, Margaret, Janice, and Darlene. Iola wills the ‘Hold-Her-Man” ability to Janice. Lucille wills her art of fixing hair to Art Engelke. Marlene wills her continued luck in skipping school to Esther Steff ins. Emil wishes some of his shyness to Gail Stakston. Donna wills her daptness in gum-chewing to Lila Usher. FRESHMAN INITIATION PARTY A Freshman Class of fourteen was initiated into Noonan High School on Friday, September 19th. Many unusual costumes were worn by the greenies during the week. The climax came on Friday evening when the Freshmen proved their durability by devouring the food which the tormenting Sophomores set be- fore them. Following the Initiation ceremonies the evening was spent in danc- ing to phonograph records. Lunch was served at ten thirty and the party ended at eleven. FRESHMAN RETURN PARTY On October 24th, the Freshmen gave their annual return party for the Sophomores. The party started at 8:00 P. M. The Freshmen proved to be splendid hosts and hostesses by starting the party off with a ‘'bang up” game of Truth and Consequences after which everyone danced till suppertime. A lunch of fruit salad, sandwiches, cookies, pickles and cokes were served. The party ended at eleven. G.A.A. CHRISTMAS PARTY The Girls’ Athletic Association chose December 18th as the date for the annual Christmas Party. 8 School Gym was gaily decorated with red and green streamers, and a Christmas tree added to the festivity. Each class presented a number for the program, and these were rated by the judges. The Eighth Grade received the prize for their humorous present- ation of a comical courtroom scene. Names had been exchanged and the many gifts were placed under the tree. Santa Claus arrived at 11 to distribute them. Lunch was served by the girls, and an assortment of nuts and candy was distributed by the teachers to top off the party. 1. Cold hands and warm hearts. 2. Virgil up a tree. i. Spurred on by their opening season victory over the Lignite cagers, the Miners continued on a torrid winning streak, copping nine straight games in a row. After Alamo dumped them from the unbeaten rank, the local five went on to win two more games before the “Border League’’ tourney held at Crosby. Listed below are the scores of the games played by the Miners previous to the Border League tourney: Opposing Team Noonan Score Opponent's Score Lignite 38 25 Sherwood 34 27 Columbus 26 24 Ambrose 42 34 Portal 40 20 Portal 34 25 Crosby 47 43 Alamo 36 37 Ambrose 57 37 Bowbells 40 33 Totals 394 305 At this point in the season, the team had a record of 1 1 wins and 1 loss. However, as Sherwood and Alamo do not belong to the Border League, these two games do not count in Border League standing and Noonan entered the tourney with a 10-0 record. In the “Border League” Tournament, after a 42-19 victory over Flaxton the Miners dropped a close 44-43 decision to Columbus in the semi-final round of play. Noonan then met and defeated the Bowbells Eskimos 46-35, to annex 3rd place in the tourney.
