VARSITY STRIDERS Varsity Track had to adjust to a whole new set of rules upon entering the TAPS league this year. Rather than qualifying for the spring state meet by placing first or second in events at one district meet, the members of the track team had to qualify with a certain time or distance at each regular season meet. The NHS run- ners found that this approach took some getting used to. Cries of Run for times, not to place! echoed over the infield as Coach Nelson encouraged his team. By the middle of the season, the team was fully represented in each event. The re- sults: a second-place finish for the girl's team at State, and a commendable at- tempt to place by the boy's team.
