FFA BAGS SUCCESS Grain Judging Team: Leroy Huber, Louis Sloan, Jim Milligan, Greg Neisler, and Greg McCallum. Meat Judging Team: Kevin Voils, Terry Scheifer, Leo Beasley, Mike Hand, Bob Dahler, and Jim Blankenship. Poultry Judging Team: Leon Brummet, Paul Marley, Mark Ber-tolino, Debbie Huber, Wes Spears, and Earl Tester. The biggest FFA success story this year was that of Kent Croon, a 1978 senior who won national recognition for his work in conservation. He won a nine -teen day paid vacation through six European countries, and additional prize money. In general the Nokomis FFA chapter finished second out of nineteen teams in total contest points. The best contests were in the poultry division where the team won third in secion and second in state. The team was led by Wes Spears who won third in individual points, and Mark Bertolino who won fifth in individual points. Foundation awards went to nine of the twelve NHS students entering the contest. Seven students won in the district competition, and among those Mark Bertolino won the state award for crop production. The Nokomis chapter had four State Farmer awards. They went to Bob Dahler, Dorothy Matthews, Greg McCallum; and Mark Bertolino, who went on to the state competition for Star State Farmer of Illinois. The following were honored at the state FFA convention held in Champaign in June: Dorothy Matthews, top ten reporter; Bob Dahler, electrification; Joe Neisler, soils and water; Nokomis FFA chapter, bronze award in BOAC; the four State Farmers award winners. 19

Its an active, different type of club.1' The members learn more about the food, music, customs, etc., of Spanish speaking counters. The club also provides an opportunity for the members to put their knowledge of the Spanish language to use. As for activities, the Spanish club held a bake sale and cake raffle, and the proceeds were donated to the local AFS chapter. An educational item is annually purchased for the Spanish room by the club. This year they are purchasing a sweat shirt with a Spanish moto for each member. The remainder of the club funds will be used to provide an enjoyable and educational activity for its members.
