ROW 2: Jim Wharton, Jim Davito, Alan Kottwitz, Randy Singler, Hank Ruffing, Mike Foster, Skip Klinefelter. ROW 3: Jerry Lehman, Danny Foster, Pat Zueck, Mike Havera, Dave Androskaut, Lynn Carroll, Dennis Hagemeier, Richard Pudenz, Coach Flatt. The football Redskins had a season record of two wins and six losses. The wins were 32-0 over Mt. Olive and 19-12 over St. Elmo. The Redskins lost out in the closing seconds agains Pana 19-12. They also had close games against conference foes Carlinville 12-0, and Gillespie 7-6. Other losses were against Piasa, Staunton, and Virden. The 1968 season was more or less a rebuiling process. The team was composed of four sophomores, seven juniors, and nine seniors. The Redskins will lose seniors Jerry Lehman, Dave Androskaut, Lynn Carroll, Randy Singler, Hank Ruffing, Mike Foster, Dave Hadley, Bob Berns, and Randy Patton. Co-captain Hank Ruffing was the main key to Nokomis' offense. Hank gained 918 yards on the ground this year for a 5.7 yard per carry average. Jerry Lehman named the quarterback position. Jerry Passed for 238 yards. Jim Davito played left halfback. The Redskins will gladly welcome a much more experienced Davito back next year to fill Ruffing's shoes. Dennis Hagemeier took over at fullback for the Redskins. Coach Flatt used Denny as the lead back. Denny proved to be an outstanding blocker. Dave Androskaut and Mike Havera took over the end positions. Dave proved to be the speedster of the wo while Mike had the better hands. The tackle positions were held down by senior Randy Singler and sophomore Alan Kottwitz. Both proved to be quick and excellent blockers. Coach Flatt will have difficulty in finding a right tackle to take over where the 180 pound Singler left off. The guard positions were manned by co-captain Bob Berns and sophomore Ken Rhodes. Bob and Ken proved to be excellent blockers and both did a fine job at pulling and leading the sweep plays. J.V. AND FRESHMAN ROW 1: Mike Cesaretti, David Schweizer, Larry Spears, Pat Cain, Neil Johnson, Ricky Pelligrini. ROW 2: Joe Gleespen, Jim Ruppert, David Kirk, Steve Shallenberger, Danny Kirk, Kim Dammerman, Mike Zueck. ROW 3: Coach Knecht, John Dirks, Jim Taulbee, Art Russ, Bruce Kettlekamp, Rick Bowrey, Neil Alexander, Larry Houck, Art Johnson, Coach Terry. Dave Hadley did an excellent job at center, and was a real defensive leader. A majority of the plays were run over the right side of the line. They were led by the cross blocking by Hadley, Berns, and Singler. Defense specialists were Dan Foster, Pat Zueck, Lynn Carroll, Richard Pudenz, Mike Foster, Perry Pellegrini, and Bob Singler. The 1968 football Redskins were once again hampered by injuries. Defensive linebacker Mike Foster missed three games with seriously torn and bruised muscles in his arm; Randy Singler was bothered by a twisted knee; Bob Berns missed three games with torn knee ligaments and cartilage; Jerry Lehman had jammed fingers which hampered his passing ability; Hank Ruffing was bothered by cramping calf muscles. The 1968 Redskins took fifth place in the conference.
