Zg Lg si X F' .In- W ig a ,pg sf .. ,Lat E f., 'f Pre-Season lt's I6-O And On We Go Following last years varsity team record of twenty four wins and five losses probably would seem to most an unnerving task, but this years cagers took the pressure in stride and did what no other team in the history of Nogales has done, An undefeated pre-season . With five returning lettermen, Randy Downs, Cecil Fielder, Jeff Randle El, Tony Watson, and Pete Williams, and six newcomers, to the varsity team, Bill Martin, Paul Tognari, Jim Macris, Brett Powell, Joe Hernadez, and Keith Forte. The Nobles captured the championship in three prestigious tournaments. Using team concept, hustle and a tenacious defence, the Nobles couldn't be stopped. The first tournament championship came at the twenty first annual Montclair-Upland Tourney. The victims that fell to the Nobles were Fontana, Riverside Poly, Redlands, and Northview. Fielder, Downs and Williams were honored to the All-Tournament team. The next conquest was our neighbr to the East, Walnut High, an 82 point offensive output sent the Mustangs home stunned. The third annual Ontario-Don Lugo Tourny proved to be an easy task for the Nobles with closest point spread of I3. The teams of Upland, Arlington, South Pasidena, and Cabullo looked on as another championship trophy came to Nobleland. Again Feilder and Downs were named to the All-Tournament team and Williams was named M.V.P. of the tournament. Next, the Nobles breezed through their own I7th annual Nogales Christmas Tourna- ment beating Baldwin Park, Royal Oak, EI Monte, and Edgewood with the closest win by ll points. Randel El, Fielder, and Downs made the all tourney team with Pete Williams again the M.V.P. of the Tournament. Their final wins of the preseason were Santa Fe, Azusa, and Edgewood.
