,x,..., gcc, -.M The Nogales H S Marching Nobles Band and Tall Flags The Nogales H S Marching Nobles has had one of :ts most successful years this year The I9808l Marching Nobles began practlclng for this school year ln August of ,ja X463 l98O The Marching Band IS under the dl rectlon of Mr Davld Stowell and this year the band has a co op teacher Mrs Cath: Wilson The band IS lead by Drum Major Manuel Gonzalez and Assistant Drum Ma jors Mlke Martinez and Mlke Colllns The auxlllary unlt captain IS Connle Duplesls wlth Marla Fausto asslstlng In flags and Debble Turley leading the rlfle team Besides performing half time shows at football games and glvlng other school per formances the band goes to three dlffer ent types of competltlon ln the fall there are two The flrst IS the field show compe tltlon where the bands tall flag teams and drlll teams from different hlgh schools are judged for their performances at half time shows The second IS the band revlew Cpa radej competltlon where again all of the marching unlts from different hugh schools are judged on muslc and marching ln parade marching style The last type of band competltlon IS really not a competltlon lt IS the music festival rating Here, only the band performs The band glves a concert type performance and It IS judged on music and IS given a rating In addltlon, the tall flag team and the drlll team have separate competitions The tall flag teams are usually In late wlnter and drlll teams are year round There are also lndlvldual drum major competltlons. This year was the flrst year the Marching Nobles completed In fleld show competitions. The flrst competltlon the Nobles had this year was the Slml Valley Field Show Tournament ln their dlvlslon the band placed flrst, the tall flags placed at the Chlno Fleld Show Tournament. At the Rancho Cucamonga Band Review, the band placed thlrd, Majorette Kelly Gardner, and Drum Major Manuel Gonzalez placed second. At the Callfornla Band Revlew In Santa Ana, the band placed fourth, drlll team placed fourth, the percussion section placed slxth, and Drum Major Mike Colllns placed slxth The Marching Nobles also competed at the prestigious All Western Band Review ln Long Beach There IS no league competltlon or champlonshlp for march Ing bands but competltlon after competltlon the Nogales Marching Band scored higher than other hlgh schools In our league.
