The School More than fifty years ago Noblesville High School was commissioned in Indiana, and it has maintained that commission to date. Since that time the development of schools, particularly secondary Qhighb schools, has been more rapid and far-reaching than any one could then have supposed it would be: and the change is still taking place. We must not lose sight of the fact that our school is a public school. sup- ported by the people, and intended to be operated for their greatest benefit. ln order to secure the greatest benefit we believe that the ideals and standards of our school must be high and diflicult enough to challenge the minds of all. We believe: l. That too much time has been squandered on a few pupils whose natur- al ability is low, and that not enough time has been spent on those pupils whose mental standard is high. 2. That the most intelligent pupils have been neglected and for that reason have been menaced by the school merely because they were not kept busy. 3. That in order to best serve our community this high school should require that every one work to the limit of his capacity. placing the emphasis. not on the slow, or delinquent pupils as has been done in the past. but rather on those that are better endowed naturally and are more industrious. 4. That the subjects taught are not an end in themselves but merely a means to an end: that the greatest benefit comes to a student not from facts, gleaned and remembered from books, but from habits of industry, honesty, and punctuality, and from a developed personal responsibility. 5. That the homes of all pupils are vital factors determining not- only their school success, but their life's success. -E. V. Rutherford .QEli,1.l..iQ ..,...................a .. . ..... ,. .. ac... No, So, you don't live in'Goshen: You eat there: sleep there: I l Draw from there your life, 'And live in sunny Italy and Greece. Perhaps, if you should live in Goshen- Since you know Rome and Greece and Paradise- The small talk might grow larger, and men come - To plant their dreams and not their cabbage in the moon. The soil is good in Goshen: Stars shine, skies are clear and fair: If you should LIVE in Goshen: They and you might see, New worlds of life and peace, Not hid from them and thee. fi gr Pt n,. H .
