Her job is to be ready at all times to carry out her primary mission: to transport to a combat area some 1,500 troops and their equipment necessary for an Amphibious Assault on an enemy shore. Upon arrival at the assault area, the NOBLE's ulVlain Armamentf' the many boats she carries, delivers the troops and supplies to the beach in a rapid and orderly fashion. The ability to accomplish this mission stands as the key deterrent to aggression in the Far East. The NOBLE is designed to carry assault troops and their equipment to an objective area, and to 1and troops and cargo on enemy-held beaches. In addition this ship is equipped to act as a floating hospital at any time, to evacuate and transport troops, casualties and prisoners of War from the combat area, and to train embarked combat troops in the technique of amphibious landing operations. To perform these functions, the NOBLE has a umain battery of 19 LCVP's, 2 LCM-6's, and 3 LCPL's - a total of 24 boats. The NOBLE can carry about 100 troop officers and 1,500 troop enlisted men, in addition to her own Wartime complement of approximately 30 officers and 320 en- listed men. To unload troops and combat loaded cargo as fast as possible, the NOBLE is equipped with 10 debarkation stations, 13 booms Q5, 10, and 35 tonj, and 5 holds. .The NOBLE is approximately 456 feet long and displaces about 12,000 tons when fully loaded. She 1S able to make speeds in excess of 17 knots, but will normally cruise around 12 to 15 knots. Her gunnery armament, essentially defensive in nature, consists of five 40mm mounts one quad and four dualsj.
