CAPTAIN'S MESSAGE The NOBLE,s deployment to the Western Pacific this year has been marked with outstanding success. As a member of the Seventh Fleet Amphibious Force, and more particularly as a member of the Amphibious Ready Group, we were fre- quently called upon to demonstrate our readiness at unusual times and under difficult circumstances. On each and every such occasion NOBLE not only met its commitments, but was first to load and first to sail when ordered. It is a tribute to the crew that every commitment was met by every Depart- ment throughout the deployment without accident, incident or delay. ln addition to its fine operational record in support of U.S. policy in the Western Pacific, NOBLE also had a most successful training year. It earned the annual Amphibious Assault Award, the White MEP for excellence in gunnery, and the Bed MEM for excellence in Engineering. lt completed all exercises required for the training year despite many in- terruptions due to weather and changes in operational schedules. Our crew can be proud of its fine personnel record. Good Conduct Medals were awarded to 22 men during the deployment, while l00 were promoted to the next higher rating. NOBLE was the single ship within Amphibious Squadron ONE to be nominated for the annual PHIBPAC Personnel Excellence Award. This has been a productive and successful cruise which has given us a sense of pride and satisfaction in fulfilling a difficult assignment. l am proud and happy to have been your Captain on this deploy- . 97 ' ' ment, and to have been a part, of a crew with so much ucan do spirit.
