. A rg-fm-fvmngg-1. fmgqvre- ' W SHIP'S ACTIVITIES While in WESTPAC and mainly at Subic Bay, much of our spare time was spent at Grande Island. This was the recreational area where you could find many of your shipmates during the sultry weekends. Two successful ship's parties were given at the Subic Service Center. The major sports played while at Subic Bay were baseball, bowling, wrestling and basketball. While in port, afternoon games were scheduled among the various ships. Cold drinks were available to participants and spectators who attended the games. One could visit the bowling alley any night of the week and discover many Noblemen practicing for the big matches on the following Friday eve- ning. That night was set aside for bowling among divisions. 4'E ,division won the inter-divisional bowling championship. HAIL of second division and SPIKER of OI division represented the Noble at the National Open W1'estling Championship in Manila. HAIL won second place in his 170 lbs. class. Other sports events in which Noblemen participated were swimming, boating, water skiing, weight lifting, hiking and golf. The hobby shop offered such diversions as ceramics, photography, carpentry and of course many men spent some profitable hours at the base library. From the array of sports and activities presented, each man chose his favorite, and thus enjoyed his stay at Subic Bay. ? 1 '- . C ' 4 . 4 ' a 1- 2 v u 1,-u v, 6' 7 0 O , if I 'I J l .1 ' Q :Ig '1.
