After morning quarters an azimuth of the sun is determined to verify the accuracy of the gyro compass. Sun lines are shot about 1000 and 11005 these along with LAN flocal apparent noonj determine the ship's 1200 position. A few sun lines are taken during the afternoon to check on the ship's progress. At sundown an ampli- tude of the sun is taken in order to again check the accuracy of the gyro compass.
