From '4l To '43 he was an insTrucTor in NavigaTion aT The Uni- versiTy of Virginia afTer which he Took charge of a new phase of Navy Training . . , ThaT of underway Training for crews of LCl's, a subiecT wiTh which The Navy was sTiII experimenTing, ln I944 he moved up To planning officer for Amphibious uniTs in The 8Th fleeT. l-le planned and acTed as operaTions officer for The So'uThern France landings in I945. He conTinued in Amphibs in '45 and '46 wiTh Phib group I and conducTed The firsT large scale posTwar amphibious operaTion in The Pacific wifh The 2nd lnfanTry Division. ln '47 he Took command of The USS Fechfeler and did The Chinese CoasT Cruise where he ef- fecTed The rescue of 56 persons from a Typhoon- wrecked Chinese ship wiTh no loss of life. Back To college in '48 as execufive officer of The NROTC uniT aT The U. of Texas. From Texas he moved To planning officer for Phib Pac where he parTicipaTed in The Korean Police AcTion . Now we see him every day and we know he's DES DIV 62 . . . His wife and Two daughTers live ouT in lnyo CounTy, California on his ciTrus ranch. Dr. GriTTi+h, LT. S. M.
