SENIOR CLASS TRIP A large group of friends and relatives gathe r ed at Hewe1l's Drug Store at 9 A. M. on May 30th to see the graduates off on their trip to Washington, D. C. Arriving at the Houston train terminal, we boarded the Rock Island Rocket. That night we crossed Oklahoma and following breakfast on the train we arrived in Kansas City. We toured the city and had lunch at Olsens . That evening we boarded the Wabash for St. Louis and Washington arriving in our nation's capital about midnight Monday. The first day of sightseeing was a rainy one, but we visited the Bureau of Printing and En- graving, the Smithsonian Institute, the White House and the Capitol where we toured with the same guide who conducted the Nixon Class of '56 through the building. Wednesday was a beautiful sun shiny day and we were greatly impressed by our visits to Mt. Vernon, Arlington National Cemetery, the Lincoln, Jefferson and Marine Corps Memorials. All abroad was heard at 6 P.M. on Wednesday and our train rolled we stwa rd toward St. Louis . From here the Rocket brought us to Houston and our good old s cho ol bus delivered us safely home to Nixon about 9:30 Friday June 5th. Mrs. Leonora Weinert, our class sponsor and Mr. James Talley, Jr., principalaccompanied us on the trip. N Darleen, what is so interesting? Washington D.C. or Bust! WASHINGTON D.C. Most of us were actually thrilled with the thought that we were to personally visit and see so many places and things about which we had read in our history books. Our group nearing the Capitol. An interesting view of the Washington Monument. A few silent moments during the changing of the guards at the tomb of the Unknown Solider. A thrill of a life- time, the Marine Corps Lee's home at Arlington Cemetery. Memorial. The beautiful Mount Vernon.
