FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK. . . John F. Santrock Principal NITRO HIGH SCHOOL Joftn 9. Santv si, O xinaipal N't» ». V'r9,n‘ January 15, 1963 To che Senior Class of 1963: The beautiful song from which you have chosen your theme, You'll Never Walk Alone , begins with descriptions of darkness and storms, but concludes with a golden sky and the sweet silver song of the lark. We read in the Twenty-Third Psalin, Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.' Theodore Roosevelt summed it up when he urged men to 'Dare mi”hty things' rather chan to Live in that gray twilight which knows neither victory nor defeat. The song, Che Bible, and man each, I think, were talking about an affair of the spirit. It is chat spirit that shuns the twilight zone and chooses unquestioningly the sunny side of the street. It is on che sunny side that foresight is most acute and vision is uncluttered with dim and forbidding shadows. It is on the sunny side that' a man walks proudly, erect, full of plans for the future. It is the path of freedom, of the pride in the creativity of man, and in his God-given integrity. It is the path to great- ness for all mankind. As you leave Nicro High School, I trust that each of you will weather the storm, chat you will hold your head up high to hear the song of the silver lark for; success is yours when you trust in God, have faith in fellow man, and confidence in self, then truly. You'll Never Walk Alone. Sincerely, ohn F. Santrock 4
