1962 CLASS HISTORY Education played a large part in our four years of high school, but such factors as basketball games, pep assemblies, football games, school parties, and other school functions helped keep our rapt attention toward Nitro High School. Our Freshman year was highlighted by being able to choose some of our own classes. Latin and first-year algebra presented unlimited educational advancement possibilities. Our goals and standards began to acquire definite form and we watched in awe the upper classmen, waiting for our turn at all the activities. Dallas Shamblin was President of our Freshman class, Kaye Cooke was Vice-President and Linda Cochran, Secretary-Treasurer. During our Sophomore year we learned the joy of disecting a frog. Spanish, Latin, and French opened new portals of language to us and we were caught in a new whirl of senior high games and activities. Led by Vic Ferrari, President, Karen Harris, Vice-President and Linda Cochran, Sec- retary-Treasurer, our class proved to be a capable and adept group of students. As Juniors, our goals had become definite and we were kept busy, whether it was trying to meet the deadline for the school paper, or in a geometry class, or in a chemistry class. Our abilities were tested and proven. With Charles Dye as our able President, Howard Janey as Vice-President and Sue Anderson as Secretary-Treasurer, we were confronted with the Junior-Senior Prom. Imagi- nations were tested and proven and after weeks of hard work with fun intermingled, the Junior Class presented the Seniors with an enchanting and memorable prom. Lights for the football field highlighted the beginning of our Senior year along with thethrillsof being mighty Seniors. Jimmy Summers as President, Stan Abrams as Vice- President, and Randy Alexander as Secretary-Treasurer, led the Senior Class through its many functions and responsibilities. Beverly Linville, Janice Richards, Peggy Smith, and Sue Ann Thompson were the top four Seniors in the class, having the highest grade averages. Educationalopportunities, lasting friendships, and sincere happiness have been offered by Nitro High School. We have accepted these and will remember them always. 25
