DEDICATION U i I Mrs. Doris Bowers Longfellow was surely thinking of Mrs. Doris Bowers when he penned the fitting words, Never idle a moment, but thrifty and thoughtful of others. Mrs. Bowers is secretly admired by her business education students because she teaches the ageless act of striving for perfection. Yet, constantly, she is watchful for new ideas and modern methods of teaching. In eleven years at Nitro, Mrs. Bowers has been more than a teacher. The F. B. L. A. and F. T. A., under her guidance, have grown rapidly and have gained statewide re- cognition for Nitro High. As Mrs. Bowers has a teen-age daughter, she knows the problems of young people and has served excellently this year as counselor. So, Mrs. Bowers, we dedicate to you our 1959 Wildcat. 4

PRINCIPAL NITRD HIGH SCHOOL John F. Santrock, Principal Nitro, West Virginia December 17, 1958 St ant rock Memories, just the thought, makes one sit back, relax and dream a while. We, like our forefathers, still keep time by the crowning events in our lives. It will always be easy to remember '59, for was it not the year of the first undefeated football team in Wildcat history? Can you forget how proud we were to be chosen for the Lions Convention parade in Chicago? How we had carnivals, sold ads, bought candy, haunted the businesses for donations toward new band uniforms and then finally came the showing at the Poca game. Were we not in the first high school basketball game against Stonewaxl in the Civic Center? Yes, and most important came honors from National Scholastic contests. National Merit winners, essay winners, and many more scholarships and contests not yet reported. We were thrilled with our radio programs emulating from WKLC in St. Albans every Saturday. Although these were only a few of many events, I am sure those listed above will always make your hearts swell with pride and fill your memory cup to overflowing. You have given much to your school and community. What you can give is more important to you in the long run than that which you can get. May these successes not only be memories in each of your lives but may they be steps to a successful and happy life.
