'- k ff W9 The loss of six regulars left the Mustangs weak and inexperienced at the beginning of the 1950 season SIX returning lettermem along with several newcomers formed the neucleus of the '50 Mustang souad Dractice sessions began at football camp 1n Spearfish held Aug 31 to Sept 2 After two lopsided losses to Hill City and Buffalo the improving Mustangs fought a favored Newell team to a 6 to 6 tie The Mustangs met St Patricks 6f Lead at Nlsland for the Mustangs first home gam and walloped them LO to 13 to break into the win column A poor defense and too Slow an offense accounted for the Mustangs third and last losscf the season when they met Vale and were left on the short end of a 22 to 13 count A Mustang rally in the fourth quarter accounted for all the Mustang's points but t1me ran out before the gap could be closed The Mustangs kept their homecoming intact by thrashlng the New Underwood Tigers 29 to 6 The hlghllght of the game was a 70 yard kickoff return by a Hidland player after faking a handoff Gerald1ne Miller re1gned as Homecoming queen The Mustangs out fought and out played a big er St Mart1ns team to w1n the1r th1rd game of the season lhe Mustangs f1D1ShQd the season with three wins, three losses, and a t1e for fourth place in conference standings Dave Rathbun and Marvin Penton wer co captains 7' 's, -My 'za' , 'M vs. 'N IVA lr . 1 D ' A Q F 1 l s ' I:-7 'nr N - V , f , .1 9 ' 4, sf his 5 'K A .
