MARCHING BAND THE MIGHTY VIKING BANDS The Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Marching Band, and Stage Band made up the bulk of the Nimitz High band program during the 1974-'75 school year. The Symphonic Band , with members who have achieved the highest level of musical ability, was the most profes- sional band at Nimitz. They performed the most diffi- cult literature. They met throughout the year with an emphasis upon concert type music. Concert Band mem- bers must have a well defined degree of musicianship. They performed music for its learning and entertain- ment value. The Marching Band is a combination of both the Symphonic and Concert Bands. They met only during football season, participating at all varsity games, pep rallies, the Bell Marching Concert, U.I.L. Marching Contest, and other marching related activi- ties. The directors are Earl Haberkamp, lr. and Paul Wallace. The Stage Band membership is by audition only. One must also be either a member of one of the bands or the chorale to qualify. The purpose of the group is to offer the serious music student an opportu- nity to perform music in the jazz-rock idiom. They perform at home concerts, musical shows, and commu- nity events. Their director is Earl Haberkamp, Jr. f f f.f- W-.,..,. - W--'sl-v-f-guys... , Upper right - Band officers. Lower right - David Ferrell. Lower left - Band performing at football game.

These students attend art shows at surrounding schools and galler- ies. They involve themselves in making art objects to be sold to raise enough money to purchase something for the art depart- ment. The Art Club allows stu- dents to display and further develop their talent.
