We are assembled here this Saturday to leave behind us years of mental torture, sorrow, but most of all - happiness. We have friends with whom we must part and routines which must be reformed and disciplined. We are to gain experience and to live life to its fullest. We find ourselves asking what will become of us, a single Class of people, high school students, in an endless system - a world of reality. Do not despair, we travel a road built with the minds and lives of others before us. Seven years ago, Nimitz was built to educate the future generations: to teach us how to live. ln given time we will too dedicate our lives and efforts to develop this world. Today we exit a picture of our lives. Years from now, the stilness of our por- trait's a resemblance will force tears from our eyes. We will remember failing Mr. Brown's class. More importantly, we will recall ioyous occasions. In ten years, we will remember our high school period, when we learned so much about people. We may have acquired knowledge of Mathematics, BioloSY, English, Physics, l-hstory - these are for our minds. No doubt, years from now, we may forget much of our technical knowledge. However, we have learned friendship, trust, commaraderie - these are for ourselves, and they will never escape us. Today, we leave our dearest friends - the poeple who so kindly aided us in 196 Closing Toda We Follo Tomorrow We L a distressful moments. Recall the confusion, frustration, you have felt over relationships or school. You have always had a friend to depend on. And now is a time of sacrifice, we must leave behind us an entire period of our Hves and the people we have known for most of our childhood. Those of you have not felt these frustrations and questioned your identity, do not feel in' adequatep it is you that will have a mid-life crisis. We shall not depart from Nimitz Senior High School without leaving an impression upon those to graduate in years ahead. Each future class will be a legacy to the last. Each of us, each person to walk through the halls of our school will encompass our thoughts. We are united one last time as one conscience. As a group, l plead that you remember this moment, it is' perhaps the greatest change in our lives. Today, we are deaf to our souls' cries of loneliness and despair. And we are bhnd to the faces we will most likely not see again. Empathize with me, and feel each other's thoughts. Today is the most solitary day of our lives. For we feel nervousness: we have no certainty, no guarantee of the future. Stand firmly and proudly - we, the class of 1985, have iust begun. Foresight wams us of distress, but we hold our destiny in our palms. Let us smile and have jovial spirit for the culmination of this day, this picture in time. I fi 5 V ..ig sl 1 S it

OMC 0 arid -4 1. 198 Closing The sophistication of the Raphael Ballroom in the Wyndham Hotel had an added touch of class on the evening of Friday, May 3, 1985. Its added magnificence was the 1985 Nimitz Senior Prom. This year's Seniors furthered the Wyndham Hotel's elegance with their chosen theme, A Touch of Class. The gala event, which surpassed almost everyone's expectations, resulted from four years of hard work from many dedicated Seniors. Fundraisers, class meetings and helpful sponsors made the prom everything that it had been dreamed and more. At their weekly meetings, Seniors chose their class song, colors, motto and theme that 2. 1. Bill Brace, Dawn Rodriguez, and Brian Graham smile at the array of friends at prom. 2. ls that Buddy Howell or PRINCE? 3. Friendships are special as demonstrated here by Dana Carpenter and Don Helm- bach. 4. Barbara Madray is astonished that prom went by so quickly. 5. Prom King and Queen: Frank Martinucci and Cheryl Leach, were all a part of the prom. Before arriving at the Wyndham Hotel in their rented limos or Lin- colns, many Seniors went to dinner in downtown Houston. The ladies, dressed in their stylish evening gowns, and the gentlemen in their tuxes, dined at exquisite restaurants such as Vargo's and the Carlisle prior to making their appearances at the prom, Snapshots recorded the memory of the wonderful event that was so anxiously an- ticipated. Then it was off to the Wyndham. The prom was the Seniors' dreams come true. Attendants greeted the Seniors and held the door open to the extravagant hotel so they could make their grand en- trances. The Raphael Ballroom had been transformed by elaborate decorations done in the class colors of black and silver, One wall sported an ornate buffet that was decorated by two ice sculptures. Seniors danced to the pop music played by disc jockey Mike lax. Everything was perfectly done for a memorable evening. At a few minutes after midnight, the dance floor was cleared and the candidates for Prom King and Queen were brought to the band- stand. Then the winners were an- nounced and the Prom King and Queen, Frank Martinucci and Cheryl Leach, enjoyed a solo dance together in front of the Seniors. All too soon the clock struck one a.m. and the 1985 Nimitz Senior Prom was over. Along with the table decorations and souvenirs, the class of 1985 took many beautiful memories with them from the Wyndham Hotel. May 3, 1985 was truly a night with a touch of class.
