V.E.l-l. Nocational Educa- tion for Handicappedl Food Service is a class especially designed to be different from a regular class. lt is a pre-employment course, where students acquire skills needed for entry-level jobs such as waiter, waitress, busperson and other related job areas. The class is taken for two consecutive years, two hours a day, five days a week. The students practice their skills by preparing and serving breakfast and other body, and especially other vocational classes. This year Food Service sold caramel corn at Christmas to raise money for a gift fbicyclel for a young boy from the Children Pro- tective Service. if 1 ,-6 wb' N115 it 1 l-- HECE-HERO 1- HECE Goes for It All H.E.C.E. stands for Home Economics Cooperative Education. Students in HECF go to school half a day and work half a day in clothing stores, fabric stores, restaurants, bakeries, day care centers, and interior design studios. In HECE class, students study lessons that will help them on the job. They also study independent living and careers to prepare for the future. Most students have received several raises on the job by the time they graduate, and many have been promoted to management training. Some ofthe H.E.C.E. activities included a fashion show of prom fashions on February 22, and the Blue Ribbon Rice Original Recipe Contest, February 18. H.E.C.E. student, Charnae Grant, was selected as one of the top six finalists in the Houston area out of two thousand students. In the final contest on March 16 at Baybrook Mall, Charnae placed runner up and received a 550.00 prize. Through FHAXHERO, students participated in service projects such as the Lane Center Halloween Carnival and Christmas food and clothing baskets for needy families. Students also attended the Area Ill Meeting in Houston March 22-23 and State Meeting April 12-13 in Houston. 1.
