Deca l- DECA Has Active Year The 1984-85 Nimitz Chapter of the Distributive Education Club had a very ac- tive year. The chapter started the year off by participating in the Halloween Carnival for the children at the Lane Center. They continue to keep themselves busy by com- peting in Three C Conferences at Klein Oak, where Mary Hernandez won in Restaurant Marketing, Klein Forest in which Michelle Roy won in Restaurant Marketing, and the Area Three Conference, where Stacey Locke vvon in Restaurant Marketing. Dana Carsvvell, Liz Collura, Tina Hodges and Stacey Locke competed with 1,200 other DECA members from South East Texas, just to represent Nimitz at the Con- ference. The students compete against other students for awards in an area related to their training station. The areas are as follows: General Merchandise, General Marketing, Food Marketing, Restaurant Marketing, Service Station Retailing, Advertising Services, Finance and Credit, Apparel and Accessories. V.E.l-l. Nocational Educa- tion for Handicappedl Food Service is a class especially designed to be different from a regular class. lt is a pre-employment course, where students acquire skills needed for entry-level jobs such as waiter, waitress, busperson and other related job areas. The class is taken for two consecutive years, two hours a day, five days a week. The students practice their skills by preparing and serving breakfast and other body, and especially other vocational classes. This year Food Service sold caramel corn at Christmas to raise money for a gift fbicyclel for a young boy from the Children Pro- tective Service.
