l.ogge -1 l'Hand me a cropper, find me the white out, where's the contact books? I need pictures, let me in the darkroom, DEADLINE, what deadline? These were just a few of the many sounds that were produced in the year- book room in 1985. With the main objective to please the student body with better quality, creativi- ty, accuracy, and individualism than ever before, the staff put many hours of hard work and plenty of concentration into the making of the yearbook. Throughout the year, strained and difficult times occurred: pictures not taken, lost layouts, no copy written, pictures not developed, clubs not showing up to take pictures for their page, and a small staff to meet the new deadlines. The biggest problem was the ef- fect House Bill 72 played. With this new bill, the staff could no longer interrupt class time to take pictures or work on the finishing touches of the yearbook. Many arguments accumulated through these bad times and many staff members realized that putting a yearbook together is not an easy task. Such frilious activities included cropper wars, adopting Lori as our 'lMOM, Dana, Karen and Ellen's laugh attacks, john recruiting for the Marines, hackytape games in the darkroom, Vinnie spilling the chemicals and having to clean t em up - not to mention mixing the wrong chemicals together, the staff har- monizing together to the songs on the radio, Darren's shoulder to lean on, Dana falling out of the chair, all the photographers letting go of the water hose with the result of a wet darkroom, Mr. Clem's sense of humor, and finally we leave Kim the hope to roll her own film and not leave it for Derek. This was the year for new beginnings and new encounters. As the Mighty Cougars prowled through the year, the staff captured these moments on film to produce 'ON THE PROWLX'

- Close-Up - Experience is the Key Each year a group of students participate in Close Up, Close Up is a one week trip to Washington DC., where students get a closer look at our country's governmental system and politics. This year the group went during elec- tion week. The group went to seminars, workshops, listened to guest speakers, and was in Washington to witness President Reagan's re-election. i'We had a blast, said layna Gliddin. We saw so many new things but my favorite activity had to be when Mrs. Kaufman, Karen Peart, and l all went jogging at 5:30 A.M. in Washington, It was so pretty!!'f The most shocking moment was Derek Drawhornfs facial expression when he entered the hotel room to find a surprise birthday party in store for him. Mrs. Mari Kaufman said, HThe kids who went on this trip are the lucky ones. They are the ones who later in life will understand the political system from their one week of experiencef' 1.
