3- Serving Toward Success The successful season for the Cougar netters was the result of prac- ticeg two hours each day for conditioning, drills, and practice matches. To the coach, Ms. Renda Koppitz, and team members, the Nimitz Tournament was the most remembered. Here many of the players made it to the semi-finals and advanced on to the finals. Other notable tourneys included Aldine, Eisenhower, and MacArthur. Outstanding players of the year were Jack Bartuska and Anne Alsina. However, the entire team improved throughout the season. Coach Koppitz believes that the team is a lot stronger, a lot more mature, and will be one of the top three in district next year. bi al Harold Williams concentrates on ser- ving abilities during practice. bi The 1980-81 Nimitz Tennis Team. cl Jimmy Head hits a backhand volley during his match. dl Martha Askins connects on a cross-court shot at district. dl Sports 221
