The spam of 81 The first pep rally, held in the gym, was a com- plete failure. The heat overtook the gym and left everyone lifeless and lacking a sense of spirit. The next week the pep rally opened up with a bare stage, no football team or cheerleaders in sight. An announcement was made that no one would enter or go to their designated place until everyone yell- ed and showed concern for a good pep rally. This would be the beginning of The Spirit of 81 . Students let their spirit build during the week and released it during pep rallies and at the foot- ball games. Spirit is a verb that shows action and the new Cougar Paw'r yellgenerated a great amount of commotion. Another rouser was the new chant, Hey, Hey, Hey. Paula Taylor, a 2nd year cheerleader said, The spirit this year was better than any other year because the crowd backed the teams of Nimitz through thick and thin, and let their pride for their school show no matter what. al 16 Actlvltles

all Brings New Ideas And Old Traditions Excitement fills the air at the start of each school year. Old friends hear about the activities done throughout the sunfilled summer vacation. Students and faculty seem eager to begin another year of studies, homework, and the ever dread- ed exams. Clubs organized, dances were held, and other ac- tivities began soon after the opening of school. These ac- tivities were created for the en- joyment of both students and faculty. As new organizations began, money was needed for the groups to participate in various activities during the year. Therefore, the annual fund raising projects were going on busily during the fall. Some of fund raisers included the German Club selling crystal jewelry and the Sophomore Class selling the ever popular candies. The Spanish Club popped up with a new idea of selling bags of popcorn, and the Drill Team sold Christmas cards and wrapping paper. Orders were taken by the Junior Class for magazines, in hopes of a great Senior Prom. There were also various bake sales sponsored by various groups. The football team brought unity of school spirit as they began their season with an exe. citing 3-0 record. The volleyball team ended their season with 9 wins and only 3 losses. This left them with a second place in district. As fall came to an end, there were many changes occuring. The weather turned bitterly cold as people bundled up in their warmest clothes. The once flourishing trees took on a bar- ren appearance. Winter fell upon us with new and different activities beginning. 5 Narnia' E,
