Cougar Pride. Strong to the Very Ent The 1980 season was a much improved year for the Cougars. They started the season with three straight wins over Elsik, Sam Houston, and Jersey Village before dropping the district opener to MacArthur. Except for the win over Spring, Nimitz found the rest of the season tough going. This season the Nimitz Cougars moved up to a district 21-5A standing. Joining Nimitz are Aldine, MacArthur, Eisenhower, Humble, Forest Brook, Smiley, and Kingwood. X X. uve-sw mu-M. Q ab 200 Sports Nimitz finished their season with a 4 and 6 record. Offense Coordinator, Coach Lew Brad- shaw, felt that the 14-7 victory over Spring was the best game of the season. He commented that the offense and defense both played an extremely well balanced football game. The Cougars played very hard on Homecoming Night, but came up short in a heart- breaking loss to Aldine 13-7. The mighty Cougar defense was the No. 1 defense in the district allowing only 198 yards total offense per game for the Several Nimitz Cougars awarded for outstanding this season Joe Wright, M Darthardt Mark Petko Mike Walker, Don Bri Harry Smith, Cedric Reyn Albert Myers, Scott Sei Bob Smith, Mike Liverg Steve Winship, Lundi Schneider, and Victor Barlow. Never Die bl Despite the 2-8 record this past season, Coach Darrell Phipps had nothing but praise for his team. These men showed a lot of class this season. In every game we were outmanned but they always gave 110'Zn . Since the J.V. team was composed primarily of sophomores, next years J.V. will never say die with a strong nucleus of returning lettermen. al J.V. Football Team, Sophomores. bl J.V.
