Well, ten students and sponsor, Mrs. Judy elley, had this opportunity to fly to Washington D.C. and study our political system. At 6:00 each morning, they were awakened to get ready to attend seminars on different issues, visit onuments and historical sites, and meet state representatives like Jack Fields from Texas. In each hotel om, two Nimitz students shared a room with two other students from other states in the nation. Meeting w people outside of Texas was an interesting learning experience for the Nimitz group. One of the ghlights of the week was the inauguration of President Ronald Reagan and the inaugural ball. In all, the students and Mrs. Smelley enjoyed a week of learning and having fun in the world of politics. The Welcome Back Dance at the beginning of school, and the selling of candy were two fund raisers the Student Council sponsored to go toward the buying of the flag. Each year the Student Council sponsors the Blood Drive and the Student Talent Show. The blood drive results have gone great every year and the talent show has had a flair all its own.
