The strategy of planning the special night was the first move to the best homecoming yet. Halftime activities were dfeamed up by students and sponsors of the senior c ass. Caroline Joe presented her thought, Night of the Stars , as a theme at a senior officer meeting held during September, and was accepted. Work- ing during study labs, before and after school, and during pep rallies, senior volunteers created the homecoming dance decorations in a matter of a month. Candidates for the homecoming court were elected one week prior to the election. A special an- nouncement during the Spring pep rally, one week prior to the game against Aldine, revealed the Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Princesses. Donna Malott, Rita Carter, and Shelly Anderson were the winners. Connie Babington, Shelia Egland, Mary Ferranti, and Suzie Weakly were an- nounced as Queen nominees. On the Wednesday before the game the joining of the court participants, band and drill team members, and the senior sponsors met to coor- dinate an outstanding half time event. The stars really did shine brighter than ever on Homecoming night. Connie Babington was crown- ed Homecoming Queen. She provided the rest of the night with a bright smile and laughter. The outcome of the game had no effect on the pride or the spirit of Nimitz High. Mr. Joe Young, head coach, stated, The whole week was a good week as far as spirit and excitement went. The Aldine game was a big game for the team and for the school. The loss was a big disappointment, but the team represented the school well. The feelings of Mr. Clearence Johnson, Assistant Principal, summed up everyords thoughts, In my heart we know that we beat Aldine, our boys know that we beat Aldine and Aldine knows that we beat themf' fl Activities 13
