Band Taking on Compeiiiion With Precise Moves The 1980-81 season for the Cougar Band held many activities and led to an extremely busy year. Participation in the Blinn Marching Contest sparked the band off to a roaring success and prepared the band for the All-Region Orchestra contest. The Nimitz band also entered the U.l.L. Marching Contest early in the year. District tryouts and the U.I.L. Twirling Contest were both held at Nimitz High School. Tina Schwind placed 1st in this competition. The Christmas Concert kept the band busy with many practices. After Christmas, the band entered the All-Region Band and All-Area Band Contest. The Nimitz Band participated in the U.I.L. Solo and Ensemble Contest and the U.l.L. Concert and Sightreading Contest. To end the year the band traveled to Dallas for a Six Flags Over Texas Band Festival and staged a Spring Concert in May.
