Cheerleaders, Mascots, Cougar Guards Active Participants in Spirii The cheerleaders' busy year started at Sam Houston State Univer- sity's summer camp for a week of training and conditioning. Hampered by a record-breaking heat wave, each of the girls helped the others to maintain their spirit even though the hot days were long and tiring. Determination helped the girls strive hard to receive three lst place ribbons and a spirit stick during the week. Keeping the shcool spirit going during football season was a goal each of the girls hoped to reach. The pep rallies were made a big suc- cess as the cheerleaders performed skits, and select members of the drill team danced to music played by the band. Chester took on a new look this year by donning a different costume. With his new masculine look, Chester became more active rounding up spirit and dancing to music provided by the band. Three people portrayed Chester this year because of the heat inside the costume. These roles were played by Jenny Hellwig, Senior, Christina Barnes, Junior, and Rita Carter, Sophomore. The Cougar Guards, a new addition to the cheering squad, helped the cheerleaders all year long with equipment. Clay Sands, Glen Johnson, Gilbert Melott, and Kelly McLean were the four persons liable with this important job. wifi by YW Hl cl 150 Organizations

Bowling owling for Poinis -i.. ... .... hmmm Just about everyone has been bowling sometime in their life, but whether they got the ball going in the right direction or not is a different story. The Bowling Club has everything going in the right direction and has done a terrific job. The club is divided into six teams that play against each other. They have been playing since November, 1980, even though they do not compete with other schools. Every Monday at Diamond Bowl the club gets together to improve their game.
