CVAE - Co-op V.O.C.T. Qualifies for Qfaie Vocational Opportunities Clubs of Texas held several social events this past year. Sponsor Rosa Taylor and students held a parents voca- tional night in August, to Welcome in the new members. Students also attended an area Leadership Conference. VOCT's fund raisers for the year were selling belt buckles and Jum- bo memo boardsg this helped pay for the awards banquet for all the vocational classes. Three students who were outstanding for the year Were: Kenneth Kimble, Superior State Qualifier, Russell Bates, Superior State Qualifier, and Kenneth Ford, also State Superior Qualifier. VOCT officers for 1981 were: Russell Bates, President, James Sim- mons, Vice Presidentg Dora Maldanado, Secretary, Kenneth Kimble, Treasurer, Billy Ackley and Donna Frank, Reporter, John West, Pa- liamentariang Tommy Helling, Sergeant-at-Arms, and Mrs. Rosa Taylor, sponsor. f -QQ -elf' . 5- A as 1 QU -rf-f 'ii The 1981 State Qualifying Choir of Nimitz High School consists of Treble, A Cappella, Madrigal, and Pop Choirs. Five students, becoming a part of the All-Region Choir, started the '81 season off great. Laura Davidson, Pam Titlow, Dreida Hundertmark, Angie Smoke, and Cassey Essery were the outstanding girls in this competition. Next, the choir prepared for the combined con- cert with the Houston Symphony North. All Aldine District choir students were a part of this production, singing Handel's Messiah. In February, the choir entered a solo and ensem- ble competition with 44 peopleg 33 of them receiv- ed medals. The girls choir won the only 1st division rating ever received by the Nimitz choir. A 2nd division was received by the A Cappella choir at the U.l.L. contest. Girls and A Cappella choir received the same results at the Galveston competition. At the Galveston contest 33 people entered the solo and ensemble contest and 22 of them received awards.
