On this ship of ma.rvels, with its high-tech computer systems, roaring fighter aircraft, and complex weapons sys- tems, it's often easy to forget the basics. Whoever thinks twice when they drink the water? ls a second thought ever given when a person flicks a light switch? When a plane lands, do you know who keeps the ship at the right speed? Far beneath the flight deck, in the heart of the ship, Reactor Propulsion is the division that knows. These Sailors provide the horsepower and the electricity that NIMITZ needs continuously to iiilill her mission. In addition, these unsung heroes provide 400,000 gallons of fresh water per day and maintain the propulsion plants in such a high state of readi- ness, that the ship is able to meet any situation, be it tactical operations or routine transits. After a long day on y the flight deck or in the scul- lery and completing the mis- sion of the day, say dwell done to a Sailor wearing the NIMIIZ Power and Light ooveialls. LT H. Brady LT R.
