Q I The mission of the Fire Controlmen on board NIMITZ is to provide the last line of defense against airborne threats. Fire Contolmen are respon- sible for the repair, maintenance and operation ofthe AN XSPS-48-E 3-D air search radar, MK-23 Target Acquisition System, NATO Seasparrow Mis- sile System and MK-15 Close-ln Weapons System. The ANISPS-48-E radar, the longest-range radar on board NIMITZ, and the MK-23 Target Acquisition System are used to provide targeting information to the NATO Seasparrow Missile System. The NATO Seasparrow Missile System engages and destroys inbound air targets using the RIM-7 missile. OE10 is known as the eyes and ears of air traffic control The marshal radar CANISPN 435 is used to bring aircraft into a stack pat Cn final approach, course correction information is provided via bulls eye CANXSPN 413 and 1'16GdleS CANXSPN 463 Optlona automatic, hands-off landing capability is available The CATCC DAIR CTPX 42D provides air controllers with a myrlad Ofv information. The system includes a mission data recorder for replay of communications and aircraft approaches OE13, TV Repair, is the heart and soul ofthe ship's audiofvisual network for tactical and I entertainment systems. Manned by five Inte- rior Communications Technicians vvho pro- vide maintenance and repair to the Shipboard Information, Training and Entertainment CSITED system, Pilot Briefing C9TVD system, Satellite TV, Tactical Interior Communica- tions, and over 800 televisions.
