OC Division is comprised of three major branches. Air Operations CAIR Opsl and Carrier Controller Approach CCCAJ from the Carrier Air Trafficc COntr0l Center CCATCCJ. The third branch is the Air Transfer Office CATOD. Air Ops is the nerve centeri' for all flight operations conducted on board NIMITZ. Flight plans are processed, aircraft data is posted and tracked,.lVIl'EDEVAC data is coordinated and emergency information relayed. Real-time decisions which affect the ship's ability to fulfill its mission' as the cornerstone of American naval power are made on a daily basis. CCA provides precise., timely air traffic control instructions which assist air Wing pilots in landing on NIMITZ' flight deck in any Weather under all conditions. Aircraft are separated and sequenced 24 hours a day using some ofthe Navy's most sophisticated radar systems by the Navy's best CATCC team. ATO is the smallest branch of the division, but it is a hotbed of activity. Through this office, all passengers, mail, and cargo e s arrive and depart , th hip when NIMITZ is deployed from homeport. DDC if f ix z GDC Division's primary responsibility is to provide the ship with rapid, reliable and secure communications facilities 24 hours a day, 355 days a year. 'llhe heart and soull' of ODC Division is the Main Communications space which is manned by personnel in the Radioman CRMD rating. The RMs are skilled communicators capable of properly operating a multitude of communications devices which support nearly all tactical voice and data communications between NIMITZ and members of the battle group, local area Commanders as Well as national command authorities situated around the World. During the 1995-96 deployment, the RMS typically Oversee the proper operation of more than 50 voice communications circuits and handled in excess of 1,500 narrative data messages daily. l .
