- ' '- ' W' -'-- - .-f. H V M f The home of 230 Aviation BoatsWain's Mates CEquipmentD, or ABEs, IC- men, EMs, AZs, and YNs, V-2 Division is responsible for all aspects of the safe launch and recovery of aircraft. V-2 personnel operate and maintain four powerful Steam Catapults, five Arresting Gear Engines, The Fresnel Lens Optical Landing System, the Integrated Launch and Recovery Television System CILARTSD, and all flight deck lights. Without V-2, the ship would be an aircraft parking lot. Because of V-2, NIMITZ can launch and recover aircraft day and night, good Weather and bad. There is no harder Working group of people on board the ship. Unaccus- tomed to sleep or hot meals, the men and Women of V-2 routinely perform the impossible. Launching alerts early, unscheduled recoveries, and all-night maintenance to keep the equipment operating is expected of this talented group of Sailors, because they have made it seem so common place. There are no shift changes. The same aggressive, red-eyed, grimy ABES Who man up for pre-ops, flight operations, and post-ops are the ones who also perform the night's maintenance. The next day they turn around and do it again. They must be good, because there is no more dangerous place to Work than around running aircraft, steam catapults, and arresting gear Wires. V-2... they're professionals and they are the best! I 9' ' LT J. Collins LT E. Henriksen LT K. Rietz LT A. Walcher i ENS Cr. Mucke ICCS M. Cansler ABECS C. Thiede ABECS M. VanOort ABEC W.
