The Weapons Department is responsible for the stow- age, maintenance, checkout and movement of all air launched weapons, and the operation of the Basic Point Defense Missile System QBPDMSI, and is composed of five separate divisions. Weapons Department operations are coordinated by the Aviation Weapons Movement Control System QAWOMSJ. Additionally, an EOD team is attached to the department for assistance during weapons malfunc- tions. G-1 DIVISION, primarily composed of Aviation Ordnance- men, is responsible for the safe and expeditious movement of allordnance aboard NIMITZ, maintenance and upkeep of all electric forklifts and associated handling gear, and for providing 'safety observers to monitor weapons move- ments and aircraft loading operations. G-2 DIVISION, Composed of Aviation Ordnancemen, Gunner's Mates and Torpedomen, is responsible for the stowage of all conventional ordnance. The entire division stands ready to deliver assembled ordnance to awaiting aircraft or BPDMS missile launchers. Two additional work centers assigned to G-2 maintain all the magazine sprinkler systems, damage fittings and repair party gear within G-1, G-2 and G-3 spaces. g G-3 DIVISION shoulders the primary responsibility of the operation of the ship's armory and the maintenance and repair of all the ship's weapons elevators. THE GMT's of W DIVISION handle the stowage, as- sembly, maintenance and movement of all special weapons aboard NIMITZ. I 'SAM DIVISION,-GMG's and FTM's are responsible for the upkeep and operation of the ship's Basic Point Defense Missile System. ' . EXPLOSIVE ORDNANCE DISPOSAL detachment is re- sponsible for the routine disposalfdemolition of explosives, both unserviceable and hazardous, and for conducting div- ingfswimmer operations in support of hull inspections or salvageq Whether working in a high tempo ordnance-oriented en- vironment or in the supportive role of providing elevator and forklift support to other departments, the Weapons Depart- ment enjoyed a successful and safe cruise.
