I, 3 T f -:si Nearly everything done in the Supply Department, the largest department on board NIMITZ, affects either the fighting capability of the ship and the embarked aircraft, or the morale and well-being of the NIMITZ crew. The Storekeepers in S-1 and S-6 Divisions provide critical repair parts for the ship and embarked aircraft as well as common consumables needed for everyday housekeep- ing. The Mess Specialists and Food Service Attendants in S- 2, S-5 and S-8 Divisions play a particularly important role on the ship because they are responsible for feeding top qual- ity meals to over 5000 officers and men in five clean, pleas- ant dining facilities. The Ships Servicemen in S-3 Division run the laundry dry cleaning plant, two barber shops, and six retail stores aboard the ship. The Disbursing Clerks in S-4 Division pay the crew, cash checks and provide individual financial planning as re- quired. The Data Processing Technicians in S-7 Division maintain and operate the computer used to ensure that the ship and air wing does not run out of critical materials and repair parts. 279
