The five den- tal officers and 17 dental technicians offer the com- plete range of dental services available at any den- tal clinic anywhere in the United States. These pro- fessional services include an oral hygiene education program, stannous flouride applications, cleanings, x-rays, fillings, oral surgery, endodontic treatment, periodontal therapy, and all types of crowns, bridges, and dentures. The dental spaces are equipped with a small but complete dental lab- oratory that is capable of casting gold, semipre- cious and chrome cobalt alloys for various types of partial dentures and porcelain fused to gold crowns. The dental x-ray facility includes both a standard and a panographic x-ray machine. Serv- ing the nearly 6000 men of ship's company and Air Wing EIGHT is a full time job, yet, dental personnel are active in a variety of collateral and volunteer functions that affect nearly every facet of the ship's activity.
