I have spent today aboard NIMITZ and send you my warmest congratulations for this splen- did ship. My best personal wishes. Juan Carlos. CNO . . . My personal well done to the officers and men of NIMITZ for making the visit and tour by Spanish King Juan Carlos and party such an outstanding success. 1. October 1976 .... Secretary of the Navy J. William Midden- dorf II came aboard NIMITZ for a tour of the carrier . . . .. 2. .... and to present the Admiral C. Wade McCIusky Award to VA-82 for being selected by the Chief of Naval Operations as the outstanding attack squadron for FY-76 from among the Navy's 44 A-4, A-6, and A-7 squadrons. 284 .mf ffm. , CTF-60 . . . Today's visit by His Majesty King Juan Carlos l of Spain was, by far, the best executed VIP evolution I have witnessed .... The hours of detailed planning, the sharp appearance of the crew, and the responsiveness of all, combined to make this historic occasion an event of which we can all be proud . . . .to the men and officers of NIMITZ and CVW-8 l send my personal thanks and sincere apprecia- tion for representing your Navy and your nation in superb fashion.
